Okhotsk Tokkari Center (Goma-chan Land)

Japan’s northernmost seal sanctuary.

Autumn, Culture, Spring, Summer, Winter

The term “Tokkari” means seal in the Ainu language. “Okhotsk Tokkari Center” is the only place in Japan to care for seals only and it is also the northernmost seal sanctuary in Japan. During feeding time, visitors can have plenty of close contact with seals while receiving lectures on seals such as their habits from the keepers. The center also treats wild seals which are rescued and brought to the center because they are injured or get caught in fishnets and releases them once they recover.
