Aquarium of North Earth

北の大地の水族館

An aquarium in a mountain

Autumn, Culture, Spring, Summer, Winter

At Aquarium of North Earth, visitors can observe Ito, the largest rare Salmonidae in Japan. It is an aquarium with various imaginative and original display ideas, including a water tank which is like looking up from inside the waterfall basin and the world’s first water tank enabling visitors to observe the ecology of fish living strongly underneath the frozen surface of a river in winter.

Adjacent to the aquarium stands Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Rest Areas) “Onneyu Onsen”, a hot spring spa, and here they have the world’s largest automaton cuckoo clock, as well as wooden playground equipment and shops selling woodcrafts for the visitors to get to know more about wooden products.
