Nikka Whisky was founded by its founder, TAKETSURU Masataka, who set his sight on Yoichi as a result of seeking land with environmental conditions similar to those of Scotland such as clear air, climate and quality water for making whisky. Nikka Whisky’s Yoichi Distillery, since it began its malt whisky production in 1936, has distilled and stored whisky exactly the same way as back then and the quality of its whisky is highly acclaimed even overseas. The distillery welcomes public visitors, showing production methods and processes for free and a guided tour (available in Japanese only) is also offered. Additionally from late December to early February a “Night Tour” is organized, offering a chance to see the distillery fantastically illuminated with candle lights. Although each tour has a limit on the number of participants, this tour is also well recommended.
