Nukabira Gensenkyo (Hot Spring Village)

ぬかびら源泉郷

A mystical world enjoyed by an intensely cold lake

Experiences, Sights, Winter

Nukabira Gensenkyo is known as a hot spring destination where the water flows directly from the source and is located within Daisetsuzan National Park. In the winter season in particular, there are a plenitude of activities such as skiing and wakasagi fishing on Lake Nukabira, snow shoe experiences and more. Also, from early January to early March, when the lake surface becomes completely frozen, visitors can put on snow shoes and make a filed trip to see the Taushubetsu Bridge, which appears on the lake surface due to the falling water levels of the lake. Along the way, visitors can also see stumps poking up from the bottom of the lake through the frozen lake surface to form “mushroom ice.”
