Hiraoka Park

The advent of spring felt in the aroma of plums

Events, Sights, Spring

From around early to mid May is when Hokkaido plum trees see blooming flowers at about the same time as the cherry blossom flowers. Within Hiraoka Park is one of the largest plum forests seen even in Sapporo, where around 1,200 red and white plum trees are planted. During this time, when the aroma of sweet plum flowers drifts about, the Hiraoka Ume (Plum) Festival is held. At this festival, visitors will find shops and the like lined up selling seasonal sweets such as plum-flavored soft-serve ice cream.
