Aobagaoka Park is one of the more popular venues for cherry blossoms in southern Hokkaido. While we can recommend taking a stroll through the park while enjoying around 1,000 cherry trees, we also recommend that you visit the Observatory at the Michi-no-Eki (Roadside Rest Areas), where you’ll be able to get a look at the famous Mt. Komagatake along with the cherry blossoms below.
From early to mid-May when the cherry blossoms are best to see, the Morimachi Cherry Blossom Festival is held and visited by many. At the festival, a traditional Japanese drink is served called “Sakurayu”, which consists of cured cherry blossoms that are made to bloom using hot water.
