Kurodake is known as one of the mountains in Japan where the autumn leaves first begin to change colors. Usually autumn leaves begin to appear on the mountain in early September and the beautiful autumn hues peak in mid to late September. The entire mountain is covered with rich and vivid autumn colors and you can go up to the 7th station via a ropeway and a lift. In the “Sounkyo Visitor Center”, at the foot of the mountain, information on Daisetsuzan National Park is provided and multilingual exhibit guides (English, Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese, Korean and Thai) can be borrowed free of charge.
The Ropeway is operated throughout the year except for the maintenance period during winter (usually in January).
