At the tip of the Shiretoko Peninsula (located on the southern side of the Sea of Okhotsk) is Cape Shiretoko. Extending from the cape to the center of the peninsula is an area designated as a natural protection area, so people aren’t allowed in. However, if you get on a tourism boat, you’ll be able to get a view of the cape from the sea whilst listening to explanations provided by guides.
What’s more, Cape Shiretoko is home to a great many brown bears. While it’s dangerous to approach brown bears on land, being on a cruise means that you might be able to get a good look at the brown bears coming down to the coast.
It will be convenient for you to use the Utoro District public parking facilities when boarding a tourism boat.
